The Culture Behind Eating Amala

To Yoruba people, Amala is not just food — it’s emotion, comfort, and memory rolled into one. Made from yam flour (elubo), this swallow is soft and slightly stretchy, designed to soak up the richness of gbegiri, ewedu, and pepper stew.

It’s often found at naming ceremonies, weddings, and after-church meals. It’s what you crave when you’re tired, when you’re homesick, or when you’re simply hungry for home.

At SollyTaste, we serve Amala the traditional way, fresh and steaming.

You can smell the spices in the air before it even hits your table. Add a piece of assorted meat or goat meat to the side, and you’ve got yourself a meal made with intention.
